Indiana Fishing Report 3/18/2011 PEAK FISHING DAY-FULL MOON
Farm Ponds: A few bass and bluegill being taken. Bite is picking up. Some very nice bass being caught on spinner baits, rattletraps, and jig and pigs.
Raccoon Reservoir: Water temp 43 degrees and water a little stained. Took a while to locate some fish, but when I found them all kinds were in the same area. Caught 8 keeper crappies, 10 largemouth, 15 white bass, and a bluegill all in a 25 yard area along a steep break that went from 8-26 feet. All fish were caught on 1/16 oz jigs vertically jigged in 14-18 ft of water. The fish were tight to cover and right on the bottom.
Morse reservoir: A few small crappie being taken around boat docks, and along the bridge in Cicero using ultra-lite equipment and 1/16th ounce jigs..
Monroe reservoir: Water is up and muddy. A few small crappie being taken by trolling in 15 to 25 deep water. A very slow bite.
A very poor bite is reported in the tail-waters at Monroe.
Patoka Lake: Some crappie being taken near the dam by vertical jigging in 10 to 20 feet deep water.
The Ohio, White, and Wabash rivers are all high and muddy. Not much going on.
Brookville Tail-waters: Got to fishing about 10:00 water was stained and probably 41 degrees, Saw some fish come up to the top of the water, but couldn't get no takers. Had 2 good hits on a shad rap Was using night crawlers also. My father-in-law had a few hits we fished till 2 and didn't see nobody catch a thing, most were using minnows. It was nice to finally get out on water. The upper end of the reservoir is really stained but down by the d**n it don't look half bad. Good Luck everyone stay safe.
Summit lake: Some bluegill, carp, and bass being caught. No reports of any walleye that I've heard of.
Whitewater lake on Sunday. water temp was still 43 degrees
*****Norway and Oakdale dam daily fishing report. Up-dated, almost daily.

Webster Lake: Got out for the first time this year in the boat with my buddy Pete. We went to Webster in search of some ice out crappies and gills. Weather was not as good as we would have liked, but hey.....it was great getting out of the house and hearing some redwing blackbirds. We headed to a couple of our favorite ice out spots and we noticed the water was really stained. We also noticed it seemed to be lower then we remember it at these spots. The cover we like to fish was not as far into the water as we remembered it from last year. We got blanked at these spots so we did some exploring. We found some small gills and a few small crappie at the Eppworth Forest channel, but there were about 10 guys fishing the channel from shore too so we left there. It was kind of crowded, but more then anything it didn't feel right fishing the channel when there were guys there casting from the bank. We were there before many of them, but we could go anywhere and they were stuck on the bank. I know how that feels so we went searching. The guys from the bank were catching the small gills too. I don't know if there were any good gills in there or not. If there were, they didn't want anything we had. We did see a couple guys bass fishing the Eppworth channel as well on the way out of the channel and saw them land 3 bass. Nothing huge, but bass none the less.
We hit a couple of more channels and we found large schools of gills in them, but they were extremely spooky. My buddy Pete would throw his fly rod at them with one of the fly's he ties and he would immediately catch one.........but then the entire school would exit the area. You could see them making wakes down the channel getting away from us. Every once in a while we would pick up a crappie on a jig and minnow, but not much. Caught lots of small bass on the jig and minnow too. Biggest might have went 13". We ended up keeping 6 cleanable gills and 4 decent crappie. The biggest crappie was 11.5". Most of the fish we did manage to land were caught less then a foot under the water in anywhere from 2 to 5 feet of water. We fished for about 5 hours and it was tough fishing. The sun never broke out for us and that seems to have been key for us there in the past couple of years. It was great to get out though and after ice fishing the spinning rods seemed like cane poles!!!! It won't be long now and the spring fishing will really heat up. Just need a couple consistent weather days I think. Tight Lines and Screamin Drags to Ya!!!!!!!!
